His eyes were a misty gray blue color, while his hair was a dirty blond shade. That seemed normal. But after a while of looking at him, his mind felt muddled. It almost seemed like his eyes were pure green, shining like emeralds, and his hair was almost a golden blond. The two possibilities clashed. One was dull, and one was bright.

Brave? I don't think so. I'm more afraid than I've ever been in my entire life.

— Rainer Hayes, to Cosmo

Rainer Hayes has never known a place he could call “home.” As a child, his mother (Crystal) had them constantly move around. He’s been to Spain (Kensaq), Alaska (Juneau), New York (Albany), Michigan (Isle Royale, island on Lake Superior), Iceland (Reykjavik), Sweden (Stockholm), Norway (Oslo), Florida (Destin), Texas (Austin), California (Dunsmuir), France (Paris), Italy (Rome), Germany (North Berlin), and Greece (Athens). They never stayed for long at each location. He never knew that it was because he was the son of Vale. He has the gift of bravery, although he doesn’t believe it. His life made no sense, and he had no one to rely on. He’s never had friends his entire life. He makes jokes as a way to deal with everything, because normally, it makes people angry or it pulls them off course. Either way, it pulls them off course. He makes jokes because the alternative is to scream just as loudly on the outside as on the inside. Rainer never knew that he was even a Froster, but his mother triggered his ability when he was 6 human (7 elven) years old.

Growing up in the Forbidden Cities (human world), Rainer sees the poverty and destruction of the human world, and understands them better than most elves (besides Sophie). He's never known a life where he's been able to get everything he's ever wanted- instead, normally, people tried to stop him from getting anything. Adults despised him for being smart, and kids hated him for being smarter than them. He now lives in the Lost Cities, because his mother brought him there when he turned 13 (elven) years old, which is about equivalent to 12 human years.

History[]

Early Life[]

Rainer got his name from his father, Vale; even though he doesn't know it. Both of his parents have stuck with the false truth that his father died on an Antarctic exploration.

Traveling and Boarding School[]

Early on, starting when he was old enough to board a plane (a few months), he and his mother constantly traveled the globe, because his mother hoped that it would be harder for monsters to find them elsewhere. They spent more time in Canada, Alaska, and other colder places, because Rainer had higher cold resistance and Vale could give them more protection there. As a result of their traveling, Rainer was sent to boarding schools or homeschooled. Most of the time, it was boarding schools. He could never make friends because he had to leave within weeks of coming. In addition, Rainer has always had the abilty to manipulate ice, even though he never knew.

The Mist[]

Rainer has a strong relation to the Mist, as both humans and elves see his hair color as a dirty blond color (when it's actually a light blond) and his eyes as a gray blue shade that looks both gray and blue at the same time, so it can be difficult to tell (except it's actually emerald green). And though he is actually lean (enabling him to hide in smaller spaces), he looks more broad.

Personality[]

Shy/Introverted[]

Rainer is a lonely and shy boy, a 13 year old among high school seniors. He is shunned in the Forbidden Cities because he's incredibly intelligent and is often called a know-it-all because of this. As a result, he often wears dull colors in an attempt to blend in with the background.

Protective[]

Rainer's most prominent traits are his protectiveness and willingness to help his friends, even if the situation is risky or dangerous.

Secretive[]

As he has had to keep the secret and abnormalities of his elvin skills (telekinesis, etc.) for his whole childhood (in the Forbidden Cities), Rainer is very secretive and is hesitant to tell anyone about his personal problems.

Determination[]

Rainer is also very determined, refusing to give up despite any situation. His determination also causes him to be quite stubborn and sometimes hypocritical, especially when it comes to protecting his friends and loved ones. Rainer's determination can also manifest itself in impulsivity, as he can often be reckless, especially when it comes to protecting his friends and family.

Brave[]

Since he has the gift of bravery, he is brave; this further goes into his fatal flaw, an inability to resist a challenge- children of major gods have this flaw, even though it is normally very minor (aside from children of Terrakion, Ivar, and Umbra- since they are the major elements). Being brave, it influences his fatal flaw and increases the chance he dies from it.

Fatal Flaw[]

Rainer's fatal flaw is his inability to resist a challenge, caused because he is the son of a major god (Vale).

Appearance[]

He has extremely light blonde hair, and eyes that look both clear blue and light gray at the same time. With the Mist, they're clearblue, but if a clear-sighted mortal is looking, they'd see through the Mist, and see that they’re actually emerald green.. His complexion is fair and lightly tanned. He has a lean build, although he looks slightly broad because of the Mist.

Being lean enables him to have a quick and evasive fighting style; allowing him to take risks in the fight fairly easily.

  • Lost Cities: He wears a pale blue tunic with deeper blue undertones, which his mother said was "from Vale." In a chest in his room, he keeps his family crest, though he use to only think that it was a pendant given to him by his mother. His pants are deep cobalt blue, normally.
  • Forbidden Cities: He used to wear dull colors (to try to blend in or be in the background), and t-shirts, usually paired with shorts, but occasionally longer pants. On colder days, he used to wear a blue denim-like jacket, even though he already wouldn't feel cold; but he didn't want to attract any attention.

  • Pendant: Ice blue pendant in the shape of an ice shard. It turns into his Celestial bronze sword, Cadantem. Cadantem can talk when in sword form (non-pendant form), similar to Sumerbrander.

Abilities[]

Rainer has incredibly powerful Froster abilities, as a son of Vane. He also has photographic memory, allowing him to not pay attention in human classes yet know whatever the teacher is teaching.

  • ADHD: Rainer's supernatural alertness and keen senses that keep him ready for, and alive, in battle. It also lets him analyze his opponents fighting style as well as pick up minor details about an opponent, such as where their muscles tense so he can tell which direction they will attack from.
  • Dyslexia: Rainer's brain is "hard-wired" for reading divine Ancient Enlightened Language instead of mortal languages.
  • Superhuman Durability: Being a demigod son of a god, Rainer is more durable than regular humanss. He can easily shake off a hard kick in the chest from a god, speedily recover from a dodgeball thrown by a even a giant, brush off a whack in the chest by a giant, and can shake off weaker hits by Titans.
  • Superhuman Strength: Being a demigod son of a god, Rainer is considerably stronger than a regular mortal. He could have strangled a snake when he was a toddler, ripped out the Minotaur's horn, toppled a seemingly insurmountably strong Polyphemus, and he could have snapped electric spears "like twigs".
  • Superhuman Speed: Being a demigod son of a god, Rainer's reflexes are faster than a regular human. He can cut a volley of arrows in half and deflect a bullet that can travel 1,700 miles per hour, even though he could barely see the bullet.
  • Superhuman Agility: Being a demigod son of one of a god, Rainer is more agile than a regular mortal. He'd be able to get on top something double his size in a matter of seconds, like most other demigods.
  • Photographic Memory: Because he is the son of a god, he has photographic memory, which allows him to not pay attention in his human classes, yet know whatever the teacher ist eaching. Because he is a demigod, he has stronger photographic memory, enabling to remember things such as star maps in his Universe classes (in Foxfire).

Rainer's Frosting ability was triggered by his mother when he was 6 human years old and 7 elven years old.

  • Frosting: He can easily freeze and (slightly less easily) unfreeze things. Just like other Frosters, he can sense frost particles in the air.

Elvin Skills[]

  • Telekinesis: Elves use to move around any object with the power of their mind. Telepaths tend to find this easier as they have greater reserves of mental energy and core energy. It is the skill used in the Ultimate Splotching Championship.
  • Blinking: Elves let light pass through them and they disappear. Vanishers do it naturally as they move, but other elves can do it with practice and for a few seconds.
  • Darkness Vision: It is said that you focus on the light and let your brain enlarge it to create a much lighter environment, making it easier to see in the dark.
  • Breath Control: A skill elves use to hold their breath for a long time.
  • Levitation: Levitating is a skill taught in Exillium and Foxfire, which, with applied concentration, can levitate one high off of the ground.
  • Outward Channeling: Outward Channeling is the skill to destroy any material with the mind - including flesh and bone.
  • Channeling: The skill of channeling mental strength into other parts of the body. All elves can do it, including Talentless. Some examples of it are extremely high jumps, fast running, and super strength. His demigod status further boosts this ability.

He doesn't know he has demigod abilities.

  • Cryokinesis: Rainer can control great volumes of frost or ice to a very high degree, like 10 pounds or more. He can summon waves of snow that can easily cover people.
  • Ice Solidification: Rainer can harden ice into an hard and solid shape by increasing the surface tension of the ice. He can use this power to walk on weaker ice and create a strong shield of ice. This also enables him to create real snowballs.
  • Cryogenesis: Rainer can create ice from his own power by summoning the "force of the snow" inside of him as long as he concentrates hard enough, though it takes much of his energy for him to do so.
  • Ice Empowerment: When in contact with or in the presence of ice or snow, Rainer gains a disproportionate amount of superhuman clarity, strength, speed, agility, and endurance. While in this state, he would be strong enough to snap electric spears "like a twig" and shear off a portion of a shield. However, this only lasts for a limited amount of time unless he is completely submerged in ice.
  • Cold Immunity: Rainer is completely unaffected by cold temperatures and will be less hot in hot temperatures because the cold is constantly calling and coming to him, just like how heat clung to Marella Redek.
  • Hydrokinesis (limited): Rainer can use hydrokinesis to a small degree. He can manipulate frozen or icy water around him, like how a demigod of Arnav would have limited control of cryokinesis in the same form.
  • Heat Immunity (limited): Rainer has a higher than normal resistance to heat burns, due to his father's nature. He would be able to survive being engulfed by lava thrown by the telekhines (though it would begin to get more painful the longer he was in contact with it) and he'd be able to not be killed by the super-heated steam from the Mount Saint Helens' eruption.
  • Communication (limited): Rainer has some authority over his father's subjects. He can talk (normally, not telepathically like some demigods can) to creatures of the arctic.

Rainer, as a demigod, has the ability to form a psychic connection with his closest friend (he doesn't have any friends at the moment). This connection allows two people to talk to each other in dreams and sense when the other is close by. If one dies, the other one might die as well.

  • A Celestial Bronze sword called Cadentem (Avalanche in English). It's kept as an ice blue pendant when not in use and will always return around Rainer's neck. When unleashed, it becomes a 3 foot long sword. It was given to Rainer by his mother, who got it from Vale.
  • Godly Pearls that teleport a person to the domain of the god linked to it when the pearl is smashed. In his case, they're linked to Vale, so they will teleport him to an arctic area or tundra.

Relationships[]

Romantic[]

No romantic interests so far.

Friends[]

None, he has no friends.

Family[]

Rainer's mother's name is Crystal Hayes. As far as he knows, she's the only one who's been with him through and through. He loves her dearly. He always wishes to make her happy and would do anything to keep her safe. He is very mindful of her safety, even considering to sacrifice himself for her once. Despite Rainer always looking for his mother's permission and approval as he gets older, Crystal realizes that Rainer is getting too old to always listen to her and tells him to do what he thinks is right.

Vale is Rainer's father, even though Rainer has never met him before.

Companions[]

Midnight is Rainer's trusted (male) direwolf. Midnight was given to Rainer as a baby, Vale's way of testing his children's endurance. Direwolves are horrible enemies if you treat them wrong, but if you train them well, they could become your best friend. Plus, Vale thought Rainer needed a friend who could come with him easily- or, easy in Vale's opinion into the elvin world.

Rainer's former human friend; Andrew was killed by Cian later on, for an unknown reason. If Andrew was a demigod, then Rainer and Andrew's relationship would have been a rare one, because both wouldn't have known they were demigods. It's unknown why Cian kiled him, although the humans just think Andrew's unstable father and psychotic murderer killed him.

Cadantem is Rainer's talking sword.

This dragon really is the best friend you could have. When you’re sad, he will lift up your spirit and when you’re happy, he’ll be happy too! If you don’t believe us, just look at his little yellow friend, who’s held on to him for years! Dakota

Rivals[]

Styrmir has always been known for starting fights constantly and having a long detention record; so it's no surprise that Styrmir is a large rival of Rainer's. Styrmir is almost the exact opposite of Rainer. Styrmir is bold and a Guster (which matches), and Rainer is quiet and a Froster (which doesn't really match).
